Our experience in the digital world is more and more enshittified, characterized by ubiquitous surveillance, paywalls and advertising. v2 is our first attempt to reverse this trend: it doesn't track your behavior or try to lock you in. It's a tool that is meant to enhance your capacity for thinking, creating knowledge and collaborating without distractions. It is also interoperable, trying to be a part of your creative workflow and not monopolize it. Its source code is open, which makes it part of a global knowledge commons that is revolutionizing the way we produce and collaborate using digital media.

But all the above make v2 resistant to becoming a commodity, which is something expected and desirable for us: we aim to decommodify knowledge production and social life as much as possible. This makes it really hard for the project to be sustainable economically without a continuous support from our user community. Quality software is expensive to build and maintain: designing an intuitive user experience, implementing features, fixing bugs, responding to issues, keeping up with operating system changes, improving performance. Also, the reality is that v2 competes with big-tech alternatives leveraging infinitely more resources, worker exploitation and ecosystem lock-in.
